According an article from Staffing Industry Analysts, The U.S. Department of Labor announced earlier this month in the Federal Register that it is seeking participation on an upcoming study on the misclassification of workers as independent contractors. The study is aimed at whether workers have knowledge of their employment classification and if they truly understand the implications of their status. Budget for the study is estimated at $1.9 million. There are several initiatives the government is pursuing regarding their concern about independent contractor misclassification, this study only represents one of many measures coming down the pike.
